In 1938 Thomas Francis Malone created the first Newsagency in Alstonville which included a door through to another section “The Toy Shop”.
There were many owners from 1938 through to 1979. The two shops were split in 1969 when George Sutherland created “Alstonville Quality Meats”. George sold the butchery to Danny Slattery in 1992.
Ashley Thomson then purchased Alstonville Quality meats in 2012. There are also some unconfirmed rumours that in the depression and prior to the Newsagent / Toy Shop “Alstonville Quality Meats” was a BANK!!
